These types of eyeglasses are thinner than regular plastic lenses and because they are so resistant, eyeglasses with polycarbonate lenses provide the best protection for your eyes.
Caring for Your Eyeglasses
Being able to see well is very important, so taking the necessary steps to protect your eyewear should be just as important.
The first rule for those who wear eyeglasses is to have your eyeglasses properly fitted to your face by a professional, and to make sure to get another fitting if they start to feel loose. Additionally, you should invest in a small screwdriver so you can ensure that the screws stay tight.
Second, you should remove your eyeglasses whenever you lie down, no matter how much you want to read that next chapter or watch that late-night program. Falling asleep and rolling over could result in bending the eyeglasses frame.
Third, make sure to use both hands when you remove your eyeglasses – this step also will help prevent bending the frame.
Fourth, you want to avoid laying your eyeglasses face down, which will help prevent scratching the lenses.
Finally, make sure to store your eyeglasses in a hard case, even if just going to sleep. By placing them on a table with no protection leaves them at risk of being knocked off onto the floor.
Cleaning Your Eyeglasses
No one wants to see a spotty world – cleaning your eyeglasses is something that you’ll need to do daily so you’ll want to make sure that you do it correctly.
First, you’ll need to rinse your glasses underneath water before cleaning them. This step will clean off any small particles that could scratch the lenses.
Second, clean the lenses with an eyeglass spray or liquid cleaner. You also can use simple soap and water but make sure the soap does not incorporate any type of lotion, which could leave annoying streaks. Some eyeglass wearers also recommend using toothpaste or a mixture of water and vinegar.
Third, gently rub both sides of the lenses and all sides of the frame with a soft cloth. To avoid scratching the lenses, do not use a dirty cloth, facial tissue or paper towel. Also, don’t forget to scrub the dirt and oil from the groove between your lenses and the frames.
Finally, rinse your eyeglasses with lukewarm water, drying them with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth.
