Why Middle Income Families Lack Health Insurance

A majority of Americans fall under the class of “middle income.” These families are the ones who really budget their money and look to use it wisely. Health care is a big topic this election season, and that is because it is something that affects middle America most often. In fact, a lot of middle income families in America lack health insurance completely. Why is this? Let’s go over some reasons why this type of insurance is lacking, and the mindset behind it. Some of the answers might not be the answers you thought of. No matter what your situation is you need to make sure your health insurance is always helping you out.

Their Job Situation

Most people rely on their job to provide them with some sort of health insurance. If they cannot get the insurance from their job, they really do not know where to turn. There are some jobs that offer health insurance benefits, but they really are not looked at as much of a benefit. Another reason is because most middle income families are two-income families. This may be reached on an hourly basis, and jobs that pay hourly will most likely not offer health insurance to go with that. Technically they fall in the middle class, but not like some might think. Job situation is an overwhelming factor in why some people do not have health insurance.

“I Can Take Care of Myself”

If you have been lucky enough not to get sick very often, then you might not see the need for health insurance. You figure it has never been a big issue, so why change right now. It is your life, so if you want to carry on this way that is fine. You do not want to make the mistake of thinking you are invincible. For middle class Americans there are plenty of other bills that need to be worried about at this time, so health insurance is very easy to place in the back seat. If you feel like you have done a good job of staying healthy so far then it is really easy to brush off help. It is important for the middle class who feel this way to not wait to get health insurance until it is too late though.

It’s Not a Law!

You know why some middle class Americans do not have health insurance? It is because they do not want health insurance. As of this moment it is not required by law, so people do not want to spend their money on it. Since nobody is telling them that they are required to do so, they do not feel the need to stretch their money out any further. You can debate whether or not you think this is a smart strategy, but the fact is that many middle Americans see it is a smart strategy for their lives. This is not like auto insurance, which is required in all 50 states by law.
